IPGB Welcomes Parlor Hawk

2 September 2010

I Promote Good Bands has recently added Utah band Parlor Hawk to our artist roster. We will be handling some of the booking for this incredible band. They’ll be in Southern California in mid-october with a date in Orange County opening for The Weepies at The Coach House October 14, and a date TBA in Los Angeles for October 15. Parlor Hawk is signed to Intelligent Noise and North Platte Records, and have been gaining quite a bit of recognition across the nation. IPGB is proud to have them on our roster and we look forward to working together.

Spirit Vine Residency

31 August 2010

Los Angeles psychedelic rock band Spirit Vine are the September Hear Gallery residents at 5 Star Bar, and I Promote Good Bands is proud to be one of the presenters. Spirit Vine is one of our favorite LA bands. Jaquelinne is an incredible and rockin’ frontwoman who can’t be missed. If they weren’t enough to bring you guys out every Friday, then maybe the amazing line-ups will be.

Helping Spirit Vine kick things off will be Useless Keys, The Pity Party, and  Jesus Makes the Shotgun Sound on September 3 with DJ Kevin Bronson. September 10 brings out Black Flamingo, Robotanists, and Wet & Reckless with guest DJ Scarlett. Things pick up even more the third week. September 17, IPGB favorites Seasons will be supporting along with Cigarette Bums, Run River Run, and DJs New Casual and Chris Ziegler of LA Record. Closing on the residency on September 24 will be Hexham Heads, Spider Problem, and Manhattan Murder Mystery along with everyone’s favorite DJ, Mr. Shovel as well as Dan Collins (LA Record).

Don’t miss out on these awesome nights of music! It’s rare to have an entire month of music this incredible, so mark your calendars, tell your friends, and come hang out with IPGB and Spirit Vine Fridays in September!

Live Music Series: Recap

30 August 2010

Saturdays in the month of August brought Orange County the Live Music Series at The Lab, and gave OC a taste of what the Silverlake scene has to offer the music community. With a slight change in stage location and other events going on at The Lab, our Live Music Series was always an exciting time. Of course we were all there for a reason. The free and all ages series was to help raise money and awareness for Pablove, a pediatric cancer foundation.

The first week brought us Light FM, Useless Keys, Black Apples, and Voxhaul Broadcast. Though these bands were a bit louder than The Lab is used to, the event turned out great. The first and last band arrived a little late, but they were terrific. Light FM even gave those who donated money to Pablove a free CD.

August 14 was probably the most fun. Unique OC was having a large event in The Lab’s parking lot and gave patrons free beer. The Live Music Series provided the entertainment. Mississippi Man arrived an hour late and made a joke in poor taste regarding Pablo, whom the Pablove foundation is named for. All things a side, their music still sounded great. Red Cortez, The Californian, and The Union Line all killed it - as always. The Californian (a late replacement for We Barbarians) donated the proceeds of their merch for the day to Pablove. Red Cortez and The Union Line really showed the audience what good music and a good live show is all about.

The third week brought out Wait Think Fast, Rumspringa, White Arrows, and Vanaprasta. We already knew that Rumspringa and Vanaprasta are capable of blowing anyone away, but I had no idea how incredible Wait Think Fast and White Arrows would be. We often state our dislike for cover songs. Let’s be honest, there are a lot of terrible cover songs being recorded and played. White Arrows, however, is one of the few exceptions. The band played a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”, and it ruled. We can’t wait to catch another White Arrows show!

Closing out the Live Music Series was Modern Time Machines, Casxio, Wet & Reckless, and Hexam Heads (a last minute fill-in for Twilight Sleep). Wet & Reckless had already impressed us a few days prior, so it was no surprise that they were incredible. Modern Time Machines sounded amazing, and we’re looking forward to see what’s to come of their fantastic sound. Casxio’s lead singer has these incredible and unique vocals that fit their electro vibe perfectly. Hexam Heads were a bit creepy and loud for The Lab’s atmosphere, but we’re hoping to catch them play another set at a more fitting venue in the near future.

Thanks to The Lab, Indie Printing, Mary Rahmani, Filter Magazine, KROQ Locals Only, and OC Weekly for all your hard work this month. Let’s do it again soon! Also, thanks to everyone who made it out - these Silverlake bands need a reason to come down to Orange County more often!

Pretty Little Head

25 August 2010

IPGB artist Eliza Rickman wrote a new song, and it’s awesome. We’ve literally had it on repeat for two days now, and we think you should too. The song titled “Pretty Little Head” shows the darker side of Eliza Rickman, and gives you a sense of what she’s like with her full band. The result? Amazing. Eliza’s strong vocals and dark twisted lyrics will hold any listener’s attention. The unique beat and string arrangements add to the haunting vibe as the chorus seeps into your brain and stays on repeat for the next few hours. Be sure to take a listen below.

On a side note: Eliza Rickman has a few shows coming up with her full band, so don’t miss your chance to hear this incredible new tune live. Eliza will be playing at Azusa Pacific Friday, August 27 and at Hotel Cafe Friday, September 10. Eliza Rickman’s live performances are always incredibly entertaining. She has the best on stage banter in town.

Saturday at The Lab: Recap

24 August 2010

This past Saturday was the third of fourth week of the Live Music Series at The Lab. Once again, The Lab had an additional event going on, but this time it was in a separate section than the Live Music Series event. A yo-yo event distracted a large portion of our crowd, but everything turned out just fine. I mean, who doesn’t love watching yo-yo tricks?

Wait. Think. Fast. kicked things off. This was the first week that the first band arrived on time. The band showed up ready to rock the Orange County hipster hang out, and brought their usual decorated mic stand. After Wait. Think. Fast., Rumspringa played, and they brought a pretty great crowd. A lot of donations to Pablove were accumulated during their set. Everyone at IPGB is head-over-heels for this band. Joey’s and Cecillia’s vocals are incredible. Despite the fact the band only had one mic stand they still ruled. It’s hard not to be smitten with this group. By the way, how amazing if the song “Sway”? It’s still stuck in my head from Saturday.

Next up, White Arrows. I had heard a lot about this band, so I had pretty high expectations. I’m glad to say that they completely matched those expectations. White Arrows even played an amazing cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire”. Bruce Springsteen represents my childhood in a nutshell, and I was proud that White Arrows did the song such justice. So… I guess I finally like a cover song. *Sigh*

Last, but certainly not least, Vanaprasta. This band is so much fun. IPGB has a pretty big crush on this band too, thanks to our friend Seraphina at BeatCrave.com. Their live show is absolutely incredible and makes for such a grand time. Plus “Color of Sin” is one of the catchiest tunes coming out of Los Angeles. Vanaprasta has a residency coming up, so stay tuned to be able to catch them four times.

All in all, the day was quite fun. This Saturday is the last day of the series and we’ll have Modern Time Machines, Wet & Reckless, and Casxio playing. Remember, it’s FREE and ALL AGES with 100% of donations going to Pablove. That fish bowl ain’t for the musicians, folks!

Thursday Night at LaBrie’s: Recap

24 August 2010

Thursday was awhile ago, but better late than never! Due to a lot of craziness over at IPGB Headquarters, we’re a little behind on posts - sorry guys! This past Thursday I Promote Good Bands and BeatCrave.com hosted a show at LaBrie’s in Glendale for the second time. It started out a little hectic, but turned out to be alright!

Upon arrival we learned a few things. The venue’s booking agent had not been working there for roughly a month, and didn’t tell the owner about the show. Oh, he also double-booked the night. Sweet, huh?! Luckily, the owner sent a sound guy and bartender to the venue just in case, but we had to make the show free since there wasn’t a door guy. Free shows are rad though, so who cares?! When involved in booking, crazy things happen and you just have to go with the flow.

Kicking off the night was Lesands with a slightly different line-up then I had seen before. They still completely rocked, though. Lesands is one of the tightest bands in southern California, and Austin’s dance moves rule. If you don’t start grooving when listening to their music, there’s something wrong with you (no offense).

After that was Wake Up Lucid, a band that brings the rock. They had a huge crowd come out all the way to Glendale to rock along with them. Wake Up Lucid was very impressive and they played a stellar set. We’re looking forward to having them on future IPGB shows.

Wet & Reckless finished off the night. These girls are amazing. Their onstage banter was great and they were an absolutely perfect way to finish the night. This all female group is edgy, witty, and completely wonderful. They’ll be playing the final day of the Live Music Series this Saturday.

All in all the night turned out great despite the hectic beginning. Can’t wait for the next IPGB show! We’ll be announcing some dates very soon, and we can’t wait to share some news with you!

Tomorrow at The Lab

20 August 2010

Our Live Music Series at The Lab is winding down. Tomorrow is the third week of our extravaganza which is co-presented with Filter Magazine, KROQ Locals Only, OC Weekly, and Indie Printing. Mary Rahmani was a huge force behind booking these incredible line-ups, and we’re sad that the end is drawing near.

Taking the stage tomorrow will be Wait Think Fast, Rumspringa, White Arrows, and Vanaprasta. All of these bands are amazing and have been gaining plenty of attention in Silverlake, and they don’t frequent Orange County often enough. This is a real treat for you guys and it’s all ages and free!

Don’t forget the reason behind the Live Music Series - The Pablove Foundation. Pablove is a pediatric cancer foundation, and at every Lab series show we’ve collected donations. 100% of those donations will go to Pablove. So, come out and experience great music and donate some spare dollars to a great cause.

Tonight at LaBrie’s

19 August 2010

It’s that time again. I Promote Good Bands and BeatCrave.com are co-presenting tonight’s stellar line-up at LaBrie’s. If you were at the last one, you know how much of a party that show was. Taking the stage tonight will be Wet & Reckless, Wake Up Lucid, and Lesands for a killer night of fantastic music.

All three bands are gaining quite a bit of momentum in Los Angeles and have been featured as Beat Crave Favs, so you know this show will rule. LaBrie’s is a bar located in lovely Glendale, so the show is for those 21 and over. It’s only $5 and doors will open around 8:00pm with the first band (Lesands) soon after. For all you Silverlake dwellers out there, don’t fear seeing live music in a different location. These bands sound even better out of their natural habitat. See you tonight!
